My mother is 91 and has been steadily losing her hearing for a number of years. She is almost totally deaf in one ear and wears a $2500 dollar hearing aid in the other, which helps very little. We have to sit close and talk quite loud for her to hear. Last week I purchased this for her, just in case it might help.
Well, it makes a big difference. When she is sitting at the dinner table with several people around, she is now able to hear most of what is being said without anyone having to raise their voice. She is very pleased and in feeling a lot less isolated than she did previously. Certainly worth the price!

My wife is an occupational therapist, and uses this device as an aid for communicating with her patients in the hospital who are hard of hearing. In a hospital setting, often patients who normally wear hearing aids are often not wearing their hearing aids while in the hospital. My wife takes this device with her as she is making her rounds in the hospital. When she uses it, she puts the headphones on the patient, and pretty much speaks directly into the device's microphone. She says that it works very well - that the patients can hear and understand her well, without her having to yell to them.
I'm not hard of hearing at all, but when I tried using the device, I was AMAZED at how it amplified sounds. If someone 30 feet away turns the page in a book, it sounds like my ear is pressed against the book as the page is turned. It's sort of surreal. I can personally attest that it makes sounds MUCH louder.
For the price i couldn't beat it. i purchased for a hospitalized family friend who was very hard of hearing. I specifically purchased this one over the others based on the reviews of voices being amplified but not so much the buzzing from fans or other electronic equipment. The first time i gave him the unit. he put it on. a few minutes later i went to heat up a cup of coffee in the microwave which was a few rooms over. once the microwaves buzzed he immediately sat up and said I have not heard the microwave in years. he was immediately able to have normal conversations with his wife along with all the other family members. I can't stress what a relief it was to order this and have it actually work as described and for the price. I recommend this for any senior who is hard of hearing. at least as a temp relief and more budget friendly while you waiting for something like an actual ear piece.
I bought the Sonic Super Ear for my husband, who listens to the T.V. so loud that it gives me a headache and send the pets running! He said that he was able to hear every word of the movie we watched last night, and I had the movie at a volume set for me. The down side is that when I would talk to him, he'd wince and tell me 'not so loud'! It does amplify EVERYTHING. And then there are the wires to deal with....
He said he thinks it's great, all in all we're happy to have it.
